DDX27 also known as DEAD-box protein 27 operates as an important RNA helicase involved in the unwinding of RNA structures. This protein with a molecular weight of approximately 85 kDa belongs to the DEAD-box family characterized by the conserved motif Asp-Glu-Ala-Asp (DEAD). It is ubiquitously expressed in various tissues prominently in the nucleolus where it functions in ribosomal RNA (rRNA) biogenesis and assembly.
Biological function summary
DEAD-box protein 27 participates in ribosome biogenesis and interacts with the pre-rRNA processing complexes. This protein acts as an ATP-dependent helicase contributing to the modification and processing of rRNA during ribosome assembly.
