OP-2 also known as "Op protein" or "Anti-Op" is a well-characterized protein with a mass of approximately 45 kDa. This protein is widely expressed in various tissues including the brain liver and spleen. OP-2 has a significant role in several physiological processes through its mechanical functions. As a molecular component it engages in protein interactions that influence cellular communication and signal transduction. Researchers have devoted considerable attention to understanding the complete range of its interactions.
Biological function summary
The protein participates in essential regulatory networks and modulates cellular responses to external stimuli. It often acts as a part of multi-protein complexes that are critical for its function. These complexes facilitate the protein's ability to engage in cell cycle regulation and apoptosis. Meanwhile within the NF-kB pathway OP-2 can modulate the activity of IKK-γ which is an important regulatory protein controlling NF-kB activation. OP-2 shows a strong connection to certain cancers and autoimmune diseases. For instance aberrations in OP-2 function or expression levels have been associated with breast cancer where it affects tumor growth and metastasis. Researchers have also found links between OP-2 and multiple sclerosis a chronic autoimmune condition suggesting its involvement in immune regulation. Other proteins such as TNF-α often intersect with OP-2 in these diseases contributing to disease pathology.
