HIP14 also known as huntingtin-interacting protein 14 or ZDHHC17 is a palmitoyl transferase weighing approximately 75 kilodaltons. This enzyme catalyzes the reversible addition of palmitic acid to cysteine residues a process known as S-palmitoylation. HIP14 is widely expressed in the brain and other tissues. It localizes primarily to the Golgi apparatus but can also be found in endosomes and synaptic vesicles. Its expression pattern and enzyme activity suggest significant roles in cellular signaling and protein trafficking.
