Toutatis-like kinase 1 (TLK1) also known as serine/threonine-protein kinase tousled-like 1 is a kinase that plays a role in DNA repair and chromatin assembly. Its molecular mass is approximately 85 kDa. It is widely expressed in various human tissues with notable expression in the testis and brain. TLK1 primarily functions during DNA replication where it phosphorylates substrates that are vital for maintaining genomic stability.
Biological function summary
TLK1 contributes significantly to chromatin remodeling and DNA repair by influencing histone dynamics. TLK1 often acts in concert with other proteins as part of regulatory complexes modulating DNA accessibility during replication and repair processes.
