REACH authorisation
Abcam has not and does not intend to apply for the REACH Authorisation of customers' uses of products that contain European Authorisation list (Annex XIV) substances.
It is the responsibility of our customers to check the necessity of application of REACH Authorisation, and any other relevant authorisations, for their intended uses.
Lysate preparation:
Our lysates are made using RIPA buffer to which we add a protease inhibitor cocktail and phosphatase inhibitor cocktail (ratio: 300:100:10).
This means that the protein of interest is denatured.
If you require a native form of the protein please use the live cell version. Please refer to our lysis protocol for further details on how our lysates are prepared.
User storage instructions:
Lyophilizate may be stored at 4°C. After reconstitution, store at -20°C for short-term storage or -80°C for long-term storage.
This product is subject to limited use licenses from The Broad Institute and ERS Genomics Limited, and is developed with patented technology. For full details of the limited use licenses and relevant patents please refer to our

ATG16L2 also known as Autophagy Related 16 Like 2 is a protein that plays a role in the autophagy process. It weighs approximately 80 kDa. Scientists find ATG16L2 in various tissues with notable expression in immune system-related tissues. The protein exhibits structural similarities to ATG16L1 another key autophagy protein and shares a role in the formation of autophagosomes by providing a scaffold for the recruitment of other autophagic proteins.
Biological function summary
ATG16L2 contributes to cellular homeostasis by supporting autophagic activity. It associates with the ATG5-ATG12 complex essential for the formation of autophagosomes. This interaction ensures the delivery of cytoplasmic content to lysosomes for degradation an important step in autophagic flux. The presence of ATG16L2 in immune cells suggests an additional role in modulating immune responses and maintaining balance during stress conditions.
Pathways
ATG16L2 is primarily involved in the autophagy and lysosomal degradation pathways. These pathways are important for maintaining cell survival under nutrient-deprived conditions. Within its pathways ATG16L2 interacts closely with proteins like LC3 which is necessary for autophagosome maturation and function. It's part of the larger network of proteins orchestrating the cellular response to metabolic stress and damage.
Alterations in ATG16L2 expression or function have been linked to certain autoimmune diseases such as Crohn's disease. This connection suggests a role in the modulation of immune function that might affect inflammation. ATG16L2 like its counterpart ATG16L1 shares a relationship with proteins involved in immune regulation highlighting its potential impact on immune-mediated disorders. Understanding the regulation of ATG16L2 could provide insights into therapeutic strategies for these conditions.
