Bone morphogenetic protein 9 (BMP9), also known as growth differentiation factor 2, is a protein encoded by the
gene and expressed in the liver. BMP9 is a member of the TGF-? superfamily that plays a role in angiogenesis as a potent inhibitor as well as a potent regulator for osteogenesis, glucose metabolism, and vascular tone. Studies have shown that mutations in BMP9 cause vascular disorders. Mouse, rat, cow, monkey share 96.4%, 94.5%, 92.7%, and 97.3% sequence homology, respectively.
