Asparagine Assay Kit (Fluorometric) (ab273333) allows for highly sensitive quantification of L-asparagine levels in biological fluids and cultured cells.
In the assay, L-asparagine is hydrolyzed to generate aspartate, which is converted to pyruvate and subsequently reacts with a fluorogenic probe to form a stable fluorophore (Ex/Em = 538/587 nm) via a series of coupled enzymatic reactions. The assay is not affected by physiological concentrations of other common amino acids and can detect asparagine levels down to 5 μM in samples.
This product was previously called K736 Biovision Asparagine Assay Kit (Colorimetric). Biovision was acquired by Abcam in 2021.

Asparagine often referred to by its alternate names such as l-asparagine or aspargine is a non-essential amino acid. It plays an important role in the biosynthesis of glycoproteins and also acts as a building block of proteins. L-asparagine weighs approximately 132.12 g/mol. This amino acid is widely expressed in both prokaryotic and eukaryotic organisms appearing in high concentrations in tissues with significant protein synthesis activity like the liver and brain. It is known for its involvement in nitrogen transport and storage.

Asparagine supports protein synthesis and is involved in metabolic regulation. It is significant for the synthesis of glycoproteins and other proteins. As part of its biological roles asparagine functions closely with another key amino acid glutamine which assists in the regulation of cellular pathways and amino acid synthesis.
