Human MEPE ELISA Kit (ab277405) is an
in-vitro
enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for the quantitative measurement of Human MEPE in serum, plasma (collect plasma using EDTA and Citrate as an anticoagulant; Heparin is not recommended for use in this assay) and cell culture supernatants.
This assay employs an antibody specific for Human MEPE coated on a 96-well plate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and Human MEPE present in a sample is bound to the wells by the immobilized antibody. The wells are washed, and biotinylated anti-Human MEPE antibody is added. After washing away unbound biotinylated antibody, HRP-conjugated streptavidin is pipetted to the wells. The wells are again washed, a TMB substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of Human MEPE bound. The Stop Solution changes the color from blue to yellow, and the intensity of the color is measured at 450 nm.

MEPE also known as Matrix Extracellular Phosphoglycoprotein is a protein involved in bone metabolism. It has a molecular mass of approximately 56 kDa. MEPE is expressed in osteoblasts and osteocytes cells critical for bone formation and maintenance. This protein also exists in other tissues like kidney and dental pulp where it could possibly have additional roles.

MEPE contributes to the regulation of bone mineralization and phosphate homeostasis. The protein functions as part of a complex mechanism that modulates bone density responding to signals for bone growth or resorption.
