Celsr1 is a large atypical cadherin with an extracellular domain comprised of nine N-terminal cadherin repeats followed by several EGF and laminin repeats. Celsr1 adhesive interactions mediate the asymmetric organization of planar polarity complexes. CELSR1 acts as an oncogene promoting glioma cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. High-throughput proteomics of breast cancer interstitial fluid identified CELSR1 as a tumor subtype-specific serologically relevant biomarker.

CELSR1 also known as Cadherin EGF LAG seven-pass G-type receptor 1 is a member of the adhesion G-protein-coupled receptors family. Its molecular mass is approximately 350 kDa. The protein consists of several cadherin repeats and EGF-like domains playing a critical role in cell signaling and adhesion. CELSR1 is mainly expressed in the central nervous system and certain epithelial tissues contributing significantly to cellular interactions and positioning during development.
