GNAI1 and GNAI2 also known as Gαi1 and Gαi2 are G protein subunits that belong to the Gi/Go family of proteins. These proteins have a molecular mass of approximately 40 kDa each. Mechanically they inhibit the production of cyclic AMP (cAMP) by binding to adenylate cyclase. GNAI1 and GNAI2 are expressed throughout various tissues including the brain heart and immune cells where they play a role in signal transduction processes.
