HBEGF also known as Heparin-binding EGF-like growth factor or Diphtheria Toxin Receptor (DTR) is a growth factor that binds to EGF receptors with its mass approximately 20 kilodaltons. It is a member of the EGF family. Cells secrete HBEGF and it is expressed in many tissues including the heart kidney and lungs. Its expression often increases during proliferation and differentiation making it an important player in tissue growth and repair.

HBEGF functions as a mitogen and chemotactic agent which means it stimulates cell division and attracts cells to migrate.
