The MYO1D protein also known as myosin ID belongs to the unconventional class I myosins weighing approximately 120 kDa. This protein functions mechanically as a molecular motor converting chemical energy from ATP hydrolysis into mechanical work enabling movement along actin filaments. MYO1D is widely expressed in human tissues including brain liver and kidney. Its ability to interact dynamically with actin is essential for cellular processes like movement shaping and endocytosis.
Biological function summary
MYO1D contributes significantly to cellular processes by acting as a transporter and regulator of actin cytoskeleton dynamics. It participates in intracellular cargo transport and endosomal trafficking. MYO1D does not usually form stable complexes but interacts transiently with other actin-binding proteins. Its role is critical for the regulation of cell morphology and motility impacting how cells respond to environmental signals and physical interactions.
Pathways
MYO1D is involved in critical cellular pathways such as the actin cytoskeleton signaling pathway and the endocytosis pathway. In these pathways MYO1D works closely with proteins like FAK (focal adhesion kinase) which also regulate cytoskeletal reorganization and cell movement. These interactions enable cells to execute directed migration and cellular response to stimuli linking MYO1D activity to dynamic cellular behavior.
MYO1D associates with certain pathologies such as cancer where it impacts cell invasion and metastasis through altered cell motility. In particular MYO1D's dysregulation has been observed in cases of glioblastoma a type of brain tumor where it cooperates with proteins like ERK1/2 in enhancing tumor cell migration and invasion. Additionally MYO1D mutations have been linked to disorders affecting sensory functions connecting it to broader neurological dysfunctions.
