GPR174 also referred to as G protein-coupled receptor 174 is a membrane protein involved in various physiological processes. It belongs to the GPCR family characterized by its seven transmembrane domains. GPR174 has a predicted mass of approximately 40 kDa. Its expression levels are found prominently in immune cells particularly in lymphoid tissues. The receptor's specific ligands remain largely unknown though it responds to certain purine derivatives and lysophosphatidylserines acting as GPR activators in its function.
Biological function summary
GPR174 plays a role in immune cell regulation and movement. It contributes to the immune response by influencing lymphocyte positioning and proliferation. The protein facilitates cellular signaling cascades although it is not a part of larger protein complexes. Through signaling GPR174 assists in maintaining immune homeostasis highlighting its importance in adaptive and innate immune functions.
Pathways
GPR174 is integrated into the G protein-coupled signaling pathway as well as the lysophospholipid signaling pathway. Its activity influences downstream signals that affect cell migration and immune responses. Related to these pathways GPR174 interacts with other proteins like Gαi and downstream effectors ensuring signal transduction for cellular responses. These interactions and pathways highlight its role in modulating immune cell behavior.
Altered expression or aberrant signaling of GPR174 has associations with autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis and lupus. Changes in the receptor's function can disrupt normal immune function leading to pathogenesis. GPR174's interaction with immune-related proteins like chemokines can exacerbate or mitigate symptoms of these conditions making it a potential therapeutic target for treatments aiming to restore immunological balance.
