FKBP6 also known as FK506 binding protein 6 is a peptidyl-prolyl cis-trans isomerase. FKBP6 weighs approximately 24 kDa and is part of a larger family of FK506 binding proteins. It regulates protein folding and trafficking within the cell assisting in various cellular processes. FKBP6 is primarily expressed in testicular tissue indicating a significant role in reproductive system functions.
Biological function summary
FKBP6 associates with components of the synaptonemal complex during meiosis important for proper chromosomal pairing and segregation. FKBP6 associates with the protein TDRD6 helping in spermatogenesis.
