MAGEA11 also known as Melanoma Antigen Family A11 is involved in the regulation of androgen receptor activity. This protein has a mass of approximately 38 kDa. It is mainly expressed in various cancerous tissues and certain normal tissues such as the testis. MAGEA11 functions by interacting with androgen receptors and modulating their transcriptional activity which plays a significant role in cellular growth and differentiation especially in hormone-sensitive cells.
Biological function summary
MAGEA11 modulates androgen receptor signaling pathways. It does not form part of a complex but actively participates in the enhancement of the receptor's transcriptional activity. This activity affects cell proliferation and can influence cancer progression. MAGEA11 expression in normal tissues remains limited implying its role is mostly in disease states or specific developmental stages.
