ZPBP1 also known as Zona Pellucida Binding Protein 1 functions mechanically by interacting with the zona pellucida an important glycoprotein layer surrounding the oocyte. This protein has a molecular mass of approximately 67 kDa. It is expressed in the testis especially in developing sperm cells. ZPBP1 facilitates sperm binding to the oocyte's protective layer an important process for successful fertilization.
