UNC119 is predominantly expressed in retina, in photoreceptor synapses and inner segments, with much lower expression in several other tissues. UNC119 is involved in the mechanism of photoreceptor neurotransmitter release through the synaptic vesicle cycle. It is required for G protein trafficking in sensory neurons.
