It is associated with the matrix of the acrosomal vesicle in developing spermatids and the acrosomal matrix and membranes of ejaculated sperm (PMID: 8288254). Human ACRV1 protein has 11 isoforms, and molecular weight ranges from 9 to 28 kDa. ACRV1 was predominantly located in round and elongated spermatids in the testis, indicating that ACRV1 may play an important role in mammalian spermatogenesis and may be a target of a contraceptive vaccine (PMID: 21488928; 8874713).
