FAM38B has been recently identified in dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons to mediate tactile transduction. It plays an important role in the biological process, maintaining cell metabolism and cell migration. Loss-of-function mutations in the human FAM38B gene cause an autosomal recessive syndrome of muscular atrophy with perinatal respiratory distress, arthrogryposis, and scoliosis.The 80 kDa band detected by SDS-PAGE can be caused by alternative splicing (PMID: 34335288, 37227654).
