TRIM proteins use homomultimerization to identify specific cell compartments. TRIM5 promotes innate immune signaling and that this activity is amplified by retroviral infection and interaction with the capsid lattice. TRIM5 has 6 variants termed alpha, beta, gamma, delta, epsilon, and iota with the MW of 56 kDa, 46 kDa, 40 kDa, 37 kDa, 31 kDa and 29 kDa.
