It has a conserved C-terminal Erk-interacting domain, a catalytic domain with homology to the calcium/calmodulin-dependent family of kinases, and putative MAP kinase phosphorylation sites located within the T loop of the kinase domain(PMID:9155017). The breast cancer cells express either an uncharacterized form of MNK2 or a cross-reacting MNK2-like protein with the band of 72-75 kDa by western blot(PMID:17130135). MKNK2 has 2 isoforms with the molecular mass of 52 kDa and 47 kDa.
