When Should I Replace My ACQUITY UPLC BEH Phenyl-Hexyl VanGuard Pre-Column? Waters recommends all guard columns are replaced before contaminants can negatively affect the analytical column. Indications of contamination include: changes in peak shape, peak splitting, shoulders on the peak, shifts in retention, change in resolution, or increasing backpressure.
