Product details:
Abcam's anti-Mumps virus IgG Human
in vitro
ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) kit is designed for the accurate qualitative measurement of IgG class antibodies against Mumps virus in Human serum and plasma.
A 96-well plate has been precoated with Mumps virus antigens to bind cognate antibodies. Controls or test samples are added to the wells and incubated. Following washing, a horseradish peroxidase (HRP) labelled anti-Human IgG conjugate is added to the wells, which binds to the immobilized Mumps virus-specific antibodies. TMB is then catalyzed by the HRP to produce a blue color product that changes to yellow after adding an acidic stop solution. The density of yellow coloration is directly proportional to the amount of Mumps virus IgG sample captured in plate.

Mumps Virus IgG also known as IgG Mumps antibodies are immunoglobulins produced by the immune system in response to Mumps virus pathogen infection. These antibodies which have a molecular weight of approximately 150 kDa are found primarily in human blood serum. Mumps IgG can be detected and measured in serology tests to indicate a current or past infection or successful vaccination against the Mumps virus.
Biological function summary
Antibodies like Mumps IgG play a central role in immune response by neutralizing pathogens such as the Mumps virus and preventing their replication. They form part of a larger immune complex that identifies and marks the virus for destruction by other immune cells. The Mumps IgG antibodies persist in the body providing long-term immunity and serving as a marker for exposure in mumps testing and serology.
Pathways
The antibody-mediated immune response involves several signaling pathways including the activation of the complement system which enhances the ability of antibodies to clear pathogens. Proteins involved in these pathways include complement protein C1q which binds to antigen-antibody complexes signaling the recruitment of other complement proteins necessary for pathogen elimination.
Mumps Virus IgG antibodies are critical for the diagnosis and surveillance of mumps infection. Mumps a contagious viral infection can cause swelling of the salivary glands and other complications. The presence of IgG Mumps positive antibodies indicates immunity either from previous infection or vaccination thereby providing protective immunity. Other related conditions can include viral encephalitis where persistent Mumps virus presence can be connected to proteins involved in brain inflammation.
