Product details:
Abcam's anti-Taenia solium IgG Human
in vitro
ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) kit is designed for the accurate qualitative measurement of IgG class antibodies against Taenia solium in Human serum and plasma.
A 96-well plate has been precoated with Taenia solium antigens to bind cognate antibodies. Controls or test samples are added to the wells and incubated. Following washing, a horseradish peroxidase (HRP) labelled Protein A conjugate is added to the wells, which binds to the immobilized Taenia solium-specific antibodies. TMB is then catalyzed by the HRP to produce a blue color product that changes to yellow after adding an acidic stop solution. The density of yellow coloration is directly proportional to the amount of Taenia solium IgG sample captured in plate.

Taenia solium IgG antibodies are the specific immune proteins targeting the antigens of the Taenia solium parasite responsible for cysticercosis. Often referred to as the “pork tapeworm” Taenia solium predominantly expresses antigens in its larval form in tissues such as the brain and muscles. The mass of these proteins typically varies as the IgG antibodies recognize multiple antigenic components of the parasite. ELISA tests are commonly used to detect these IgG antibodies providing an important step in diagnosing infections.
Biological function summary
These antibodies play a central role in the immune response against Taenia solium infections. They are not part of a multiprotein complex but function independently to neutralize the parasite and prevent its growth and reproduction. The detection of Taenia solium IgG using ELISA forsøg (tests) signifies an active or past infection triggering further immune activities to control and clear the parasite from the host system.
Pathways
Taenia solium IgG antibodies interact with pathways involved in adaptive immune response. These pathways facilitate the recognition of parasitic antigens and mobilize other immune cells such as T-cells to attack the parasite. This immune process shares similarities with other parasitic defense mechanisms in the host where proteins like major histocompatibility complex (MHC) play roles in antigen presentation.
Taenia solium infections can lead to neurocysticercosis a severe disease affecting the central nervous system. The presence of IgG antibodies indicates immune system activity associated with potential neurological symptoms of the disease. Additionally raised levels of these antibodies assist in diagnosing cysticercosis. Understanding the interaction with other proteins such as cytokines involved in inflammatory responses helps elucidate the body's response to this parasite and associated conditions.
