UNCX also called UNC homeobox is a protein that functions as a transcription factor. It belongs to the HOX family and has a molecular mass of around 62 kDa. UNCX is mainly expressed in the central nervous system especially during embryonic development and in the neural and mesodermal tissues. Its expression is also observed in adult tissues although at lower levels. The protein plays key roles in developmental processes through its action as a transcription factor influencing gene expression.
