Product details:
Abcam's anti-Tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) virus IgG plus Human
in vitro
ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) kit is designed for the accurate quantitative measurement of IgG class antibodies against Tick-borne encephalitis virus in Human serum and plasma.
A 96-well plate has been precoated with Tick-borne encephalitis antigens to bind cognate antibodies. Controls or test samples are added to the wells and incubated. Following washing, a horseradish peroxidase (HRP) labelled anti-Human IgG conjugate is added to the wells, which binds to the immobilized Tick-borne encephalitis-specific antibodies. TMB is then catalyzed by the HRP to produce a blue color product that changes to yellow after adding an acidic stop solution. The density of yellow coloration is directly proportional to the amount of Tick-borne encephalitis IgG sample captured in plate.

The Tick-Borne Encephalitis Virus also known as FSME virus circulates in certain geographic regions and causes infections in humans. This virus comprises a single positive-strand RNA inside an icosahedral capsid and measures approximately 45-50nm in diameter. It primarily expresses in infected host cells facilitating viral assembly and replication. The structure of the virus allows it to attach to host cell receptors aiding its entry and invasion into the central nervous system.
Biological function summary
The Tick-Borne Encephalitis virus interacts with the immune system through the production of specific antibodies including IgG. These antibodies form part of the host's immune response targeting viral antigens to neutralize infection. The virus itself however does not belong to a larger protein complex but its structural proteins enable interaction with host immune cells sparking antibody production detected using ELISA tests.
Pathways
Viral entry and replication of the Tick-Borne Encephalitis virus engage with signal transduction and immune response pathways. The interferon signaling pathway becomes activated when the virus enters the host facilitating an antiviral state within infected cells. In this context the virus interacts with proteins such as IFN-alpha and IFN-beta influencing the host's antiviral defenses.
The Tick-Borne Encephalitis virus associates closely with encephalitis a severe inflammatory condition of the brain. The presence and activity of the virus can lead to CNS disorders resulting in neurological symptoms in affected individuals. Sero-diagnostic ELISA tests frequently evaluate the presence of TBE-specific IgG antibodies in patient serum providing insights into viral activity and subsequent antibody-mediated immune response in related infections.
