TRMT12 also known as TRM12 or NML1 is an enzyme that catalyzes the methylation of tRNA molecules. The protein has a mass of approximately 54 kDa and is concentrated in the nucleolus of cells. TRMT12 is expressed in various tissues with high levels in the liver and brain. Its mechanical role involves adding a methyl group at a specific location on the tRNA which is critical in maintaining proper tRNA structure and function.
Biological function summary
TRMT12 contributes to the post-transcriptional modification of tRNA which is essential for accurate and efficient translation of the genetic code into proteins. It forms a part of a larger enzyme complex responsible for modifying different bases in tRNA.
