The PREX1 protein also known as phosphatidylinositol 345-trisphosphate-dependent Rac exchange factor 1 operates as a guanine nucleotide exchange factor (GEF). It facilitates the activation of the small GTPase RAC1 by exchanging GDP for GTP. The protein has a molecular mass of approximately 185 kDa. PREX1 is widely expressed in various tissues with higher levels observed in brain heart and leukocytes.
