ADAMTS5 also known as aggrecanase-2 is a member of the ADAMTS (a disintegrin and metalloproteinase with thrombospondin motifs) family. Its approximate mass is 120 kDa. This enzyme functions primarily as a metalloprotease cleaving proteoglycans such as aggrecan thereby playing a significant role in the degradation of extracellular matrix components.
