Abcam's Axl Mouse ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) kit is an
in vitro
enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for the quantitative measurement of mouse Axl in serum, plasma and cell culture supernates.
This assay employs an antibody specific for mouse Axl coated on a 96-well plate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and Axl present in a sample is bound to the wells by the immobilized antibody. The wells are washed and biotinylated anti-mouse Axl antibody is added. After washing away unbound biotinylated antibody, HRP-conjugated streptavidin is pipetted to the wells. The wells are again washed, a TMB substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of Axl bound. The Stop Solution changes the color from blue to yellow, and the intensity of the color is measured at 450 nm.

The Axl protein also known as AXL receptor tyrosine kinase plays a significant role in cell signaling. It has a molecular weight of approximately 98 kDa. Axl is a transmembrane receptor that is expressed in a variety of tissues including the immune system reproductive organs and the central nervous system. It is mainly recognized for transmitting signals from the extracellular matrix into the cytoplasm by binding with its ligand Gas6.
Biological function summary
Axl is important in mediating cell survival proliferation and migration. It functions as part of the TAM family of receptors which also includes Tyro3 and Mer.
