PIAS1 also known as Protein Inhibitor of Activated STAT 1 functions as a E3 SUMO-protein ligase which regulates protein function and localization through sumoylation. It has a molecular mass of approximately 70 kDa. PIAS1 is widely expressed in a variety of tissues indicating its involvement in diverse cellular functions.
