APOBEC1 also known as Apolipoprotein B mRNA Editing Enzyme Catalytic Subunit 1 is an enzyme responsible for the deamination of cytidine to uridine in mRNA. This editing capability focuses mainly on apolipoprotein B (apoB) mRNA affecting lipid metabolism significantly. The APOBEC1 protein weighs approximately 27 kDa. It expresses mainly in the small intestine and liver where lipid processing is an essential biological function.

APOBEC1 plays an important role in lipid homeostasis by editing apoB mRNA transcripts leading to the production of a shorter form of the apoB protein.
