Rabbit C Reactive Protein (PTX1) ELISA Kit ab157726 is a sandwich ELISA to measure Rabbit C Reactive Protein (PTX1) in serum, plasma, other biological fluids with a sensitivity of 2.0828 ng/ml.
How the assay works
In this assay the C Reactive Protein present in samples reacts with the anti-C Reactive Protein antibodies which have been adsorbed to the surface of polystyrene microtitre wells. After the removal of unbound proteins by washing, anti-C Reactive Protein antibodies conjugated with horseradish peroxidase (HRP), are added. These enzyme-labeled antibodies form complexes with the previously bound C Reactive Protein. Following another washing step, the enzyme bound to the immunosorbent is assayed by the addition of a chromogenic substrate, 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB). The quantity of bound enzyme varies directly with the concentration of C Reactive Protein in the sample tested; thus, the absorbance, at 450 nm, is a measure of the concentration of C Reactive Protein in the test sample. The quantity of C Reactive Protein in the test sample can be interpolated from the standard curve constructed from the standards, and corrected for sample dilution.

C-reactive protein (CRP) also known as CRP protein is an acute-phase protein with a molecular mass of approximately 25 kDa. It is primarily synthesized in the liver in response to cytokines. This protein appears in the blood where it binds to phosphocholine expressed on the surface of dead or dying cells. CRP is often used as a biomarker for inflammation in the body and its levels in human and canine (anti CRP used) blood samples are measured using assays like the CRP ELISA test or CRP ELISA kit.
Biological function summary
CRP plays a significant role in the innate immune system by recognizing foreign pathogens and damaged cells. It does not form part of a larger complex but itself can bind to specific ligands initiating the complement cascade. This activation enhances phagocytosis by macrophages contributing to the clearance of necrotic and apoptotic cells.
