GALT also known as galactose-1-phosphate uridyltransferase is an enzyme involved in the Leloir pathway of galactose metabolism. The GALT protein facilitates the conversion of galactose-1-phosphate (Gal-1-P) and UDP-glucose to UDP-galactose and glucose-1-phosphate important steps in the cellular utilization of galactose.
