RWDD1 also known as RWD domain-containing protein 1 is a protein with a molecular mass of approximately 12 kDa. This protein is expressed in various tissues including the brain liver and kidney. Mechanically RWDD1 interacts with other proteins through its RWD domain which is a conserved region facilitating protein-protein interactions. This domain helps RWDD1 participate in cellular processes by serving as a regulatory subunit in protein complexes.
Biological function summary
RWDD1 influences cellular activities due to its role in modulating protein degradation pathways. It is part of protein complexes that are involved in tagging proteins for degradation. This modulation affects many cellular processes such as cell cycle control and stress responses. The protein may work closely with proteasomal subunit proteins suggesting it has a specific function in maintaining cellular protein homeostasis.
Pathways
RWDD1 is actively involved in the ubiquitin-proteasome system which is a significant pathway for protein degradation. It interacts with proteins involved in ubiquitination processes which tag proteins for breakdown. Additionally RWDD1 plays a role in cellular response pathways to oxidative stress through associations with proteins like Nrf2 a well-known regulator of the antioxidant response.
Dysregulation of RWDD1 may link to cancer and neurodegenerative diseases. Abnormal RWDD1 function can lead to impaired protein degradation contributing to the accumulation of damaged or misfolded proteins a common feature in these conditions. Associations with proteins such as p53 in cancer and links to tau proteins in Alzheimer’s disease highlight its potential involvement in disease mechanisms.
