TPT1L also known as translationally controlled tumor protein-like is a protein with a molecular weight around 19 kDa. TCTP or TPT1 (translationally controlled tumor protein) is a similar protein with related functions. Both proteins are widely expressed in various tissues including the brain heart and lungs. TCTP is particularly abundant in rapidly dividing cells and is involved in cell growth survival and stress responses.
Biological function summary
TPT1L and TCTP interact with a variety of cellular functions such as calcium binding and cytoskeleton stabilization. TCTP acts as a chaperone-like molecule and participates in the regulation of apoptosis. Neither protein is known to form stable complexes but they do engage transiently with other cellular machineries.
