KAT9 also known as Elp3 is an important catalytic component of the elongator complex which is involved in transcriptional elongation. This protein possesses histone acetyltransferase (HAT) activity enabling it to modify histones by acetylating lysine residues a process important for chromatin remodeling and regulation of gene expression. KAT9 is composed of around 55 kDa and is ubiquitously expressed in various tissues reflecting its essential role in diverse cellular processes.
Biological function summary
KAT9/Elp3 is integral in regulating normal cellular growth and differentiation. It functions as part of the elongator complex which consists of six subunits playing a significant role in tRNA modification and mRNA translation elongation.
