MLL5 also known as KMT2E is a member of the mixed-lineage leukemia (MLL) family of histone methyltransferases and it is a protein with a mass of approximately 210 kDa. The protein is expressed in various human tissues with higher levels noted in the brain and testis. MLL5 functions mechanically by adding methyl groups to histone H3 at lysine 4 (H3K4) which plays a significant role in chromatin remodeling and regulating gene expression.
