ACTR1A and ACTR1B also known as Actin-related protein 1A and 1B play roles in cellular processes by interacting with the cytoskeleton. While ACTR1A has a mass of approximately 42 kDa ACTR1B weighs around 48 kDa. Both proteins have widespread expression in multiple tissue types where they influence cellular structure and dynamics. They are especially important in cells undergoing rapid movement or growth.
Biological function summary
These proteins contribute to cytoskeletal remodeling processes essential for cellular functions. They act as components of the dynactin complex which associates with microtubules to regulate intracellular transport. Their activity is important for cellular activities that involve cytoplasmic organization including endocytosis and the distribution of organelles. The effective functioning of ACTR1A and ACTR1B supports cellular responses to external stimuli and environmental changes.
Pathways
ACTR1A and ACTR1B engage in the regulation of the MAPK and Actin cytoskeleton pathways. Within these pathways they work with proteins such as DYNLL1 and DCTN1 to facilitate these cellular processes. The ACTR1A and ACTR1B proteins ensure proper cellular responses to signaling cues that can impact cell fate and behavior through these pathways.
ACTR1A and ACTR1B have connections to neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's and certain types of cancer. Related to Alzheimer's changes in the function or expression of ACTR1A and ACTR1B can influence pathways involved in neuronal damage and synapse loss. For cancer their role in cell motility and division is significant with alterations linked to metastasis and tumor progression. Their interaction with proteins like tau in Alzheimer's and oncogenes in cancer reflects the complexity of their involvement in disease contexts.
