RNF123 also known as KPC1 is an E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase with a molecular mass of approximately 178 kDa. It plays an important role in the ubiquitination process which tags proteins for degradation by the proteasome. RNF123 is widely expressed in human tissues with notable expression in the brain heart and lungs. It functions through its RING finger domain an essential component in the recognition and transfer of ubiquitin molecules to substrate proteins.
