TP53-induced protein 11 (TP53I11) also known as PIG11 is involved in p53-mediated cell signaling pathways. TP53I11 has a molecular weight of approximately 18 kDa. The protein predominantly expresses in tissues undergoing stress or DNA damage where it contributes to cellular responses such as cell cycle regulation and apoptosis. Through its association with p53 TP53I11 plays a part in sustaining cellular integrity by promoting the repair of damaged DNA or the elimination of cells when repair is not possible.
Biological function summary
TP53-induced protein 11 functions in pro-apoptotic pathways that safeguard cells against oncogenic transformation. It acts as a component of larger complexes engaged in cell cycle arrest and apoptosis induction. This protein participates in regulatory functions that determine cell fate emphasizing its involvement in preventing aberrant cell proliferation. TP53I11 collaborates with other p53 target genes to ensure the proper cellular outcomes under stress conditions.
Pathways
TP53I11 plays a significant role in the p53 signaling pathway and cell cycle control pathways. Within these pathways it interacts with p53 a critical tumor suppressor protein to promote cellular responses such as apoptosis. TP53I11 structurally and functionally links with other proteins like BAX involved in the execution of cell death processes thereby maintaining cellular homeostasis and preventing neoplastic growth.
TP53I11 show connections to cancer and neurodegenerative diseases. In many cancers mutations in p53 disrupt the regulation of TP53I11 leading to unchecked cell proliferation. The protein also associates with neurodegenerative processes as proper function is necessary to prevent neuronal death and maintain brain health. Related proteins including other p53-dependent proteins like PIG3 often share its role in these pathological conditions highlighting the importance of balanced TP53I11 activity in disease prevention.
