Human GSTA1 ELISA Kit (ab245717) is a single-wash 90 min sandwich ELISA designed for the quantitative measurement of GSTA1 protein in tissue extracts, urine, and cell culture extracts. It uses our proprietary SimpleStep ELISA® technology. Quantitate Human GSTA1 with 14 pg/ml sensitivity.
SimpleStep ELISA® technology employs capture antibodies conjugated to an affinity tag that is recognized by the monoclonal antibody used to coat our SimpleStep ELISA® plates. This approach to sandwich ELISA allows the formation of the antibody-analyte sandwich complex in a single step, significantly reducing assay time. The GSTA1 protein also known as Glutathione S-transferase alpha 1 is an important enzyme in detoxification processes in the body. It has a molecular mass of approximately 25 kDa and expresses highly in the liver but is also seen in other tissues like the kidney and lung. It belongs to the glutathione S-transferase family which plays function in the conjugation of reduced glutathione to a variety of endogenous and exogenous electrophilic compounds.
Biological function summary
The GSTA1 protein contributes significantly to the neutralization of oxidative stress by detoxifying harmful compounds. This enzyme shows a high affinity for certain substrates and serves as a detoxifying agent particularly in the liver safeguarding cells from oxidative damage. GSTA1 exists mostly as a homodimer but can also form heterodimers with other related enzymes enhancing its substrate range and activity.

GSTA1 plays a role in metabolic and detoxification pathways essential for cellular protection. It is an important player in the glutathione metabolism pathway where it collaborates with other enzymes like GSTM1 to facilitate detoxification processes. GSTA1 is linked to conditions such as cancer and cardiovascular diseases. Altered expression or polymorphisms in the GSTA1 gene can affect the enzyme's ability to detoxify carcinogens making it significant in cancer risk and progression.
