Human ST2 ELISA Kit (IL1RL1) (ab254505) is a single-wash 90 min sandwich ELISA designed for the quantitative measurement of ST2 (IL1RL1) protein in cell culture supernatant, cit plasma, hep plasma, serum, edta plasma, and cell culture media. It uses our proprietary SimpleStep ELISA® technology. Quantitate Human ST2 (IL1RL1) with 22.06 pg/ml sensitivity.
SimpleStep ELISA® technology employs capture antibodies conjugated to an affinity tag that is recognized by the monoclonal antibody used to coat our SimpleStep ELISA® plates. ST2, also known as or Interleukin 1 receptor-like 1 (IL-1RL1), is a protein encoded by the IL1RL1 gene. ST2 gene is a member of the interleukin 1 receptor family. ST2, interleukin 1 receptor, type II and interleukin 1 receptor like 2 form a cytokine receptor gene cluster in a region mapped to chromosome 2q12. Studies of the similar gene in mouse reported protein induction by pro-inflammatory stimuli with involvement in the function of helper T cells. ST2 is necessary for endotoxin tolerance by inhibiting TLR responses inducing the Th2 response. Human ST2 shares 68%, 64%, 66%, and 96% sequence homology with mouse, rat, bovine, and monkey, respectively.

ST2 also known as IL-1RL1 or IL-1RL1 chimera protein is a member of the IL-1 receptor family. It has a molecular mass of approximately 55 kDa. This protein exists in different forms including a membrane-bound form and a soluble variant. Researchers typically find ST2 expressed in various tissues including the lungs gut and cardiovascular system. The expression level can vary significantly depending on the physiological or pathological state.

ST2 interacts with interleukin-33 (IL-33) and functions as its receptor. The binding of IL-33 to ST2 activates immune responses particularly influencing T-helper 2 (Th2) cells. Similarly in the context of cardiovascular diseases elevated levels of soluble ST2 are markers of heart failure with the ST2/IL-33 axis contributing to cardiac remodeling. ST2's connection with inflammatory processes implies it also interacts with other cytokines such as interleukin-6 (IL-6) exacerbating the disease states through shared pathways.
