Glyceraldehyde 3-Phosphate Assay Kit (Fluorometric) (ab273344) is a robust assay for the measurement of Glyceraldehyde 3-Phosphate (GA3P) in biological samples. The GA3P developer oxidizes GA3P with the release of NADH, which is used by the GA3P enzyme mix to convert the non-fluorescent GA3P probe to a fluorescent product measured at Ex/Em = 535/587 nm.
This product is manufactured by BioVision, an Abcam company and was previously called K2018 Glyceraldehyde 3-Phosphate Assay Kit (Fluorometric). K2018-100 is the same size as the 100 test size of ab273344.

Glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate also known as G3P or triose phosphate is a three-carbon sugar phosphate molecule involved in several metabolic processes. It has a molecular mass of about 170.1 g/mol. Glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate is expressed in various tissues where glycolysis and gluconeogenesis occur. As an intermediate in these metabolic pathways glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate plays a critical role in converting glucose molecules into energy.
Biological function summary
Glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate is essential in energy production and biosynthesis. It participates in the glycolytic pathway where it is a substrate for the enzyme glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH). This enzyme facilitates its conversion to 13-bisphosphoglycerate playing a part in ATP generation. Additionally glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate exists in the Calvin Cycle of photosynthesis in plants acting in the formation of glucose from carbon dioxide.

Glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate is an important component in glycolysis and gluconeogenesis. These pathways involve its interaction with enzymes like triose phosphate isomerase and GAPDH. In glycolysis its conversion helps generate ATP and pyruvate for further energy production. In gluconeogenesis it contributes to glucose production from non-carbohydrate sources. Glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate also links to the pentose phosphate pathway connecting energy production to nucleotide synthesis.
Abnormal metabolism of glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate links to conditions such as cancer and diabetes.
