PEA15 also known as phosphoprotein enriched in astrocytes 15 or PED is a multifunctional protein weighing around 15 kDa. Mechanically PEA15 acts as a death effector domain (DED)-containing protein that modulates diverse cellular processes by binding to and inhibiting other DED-containing proteins. This protein shows wide expression notably in the central nervous system including the brain where it exerts critical roles in signaling networks.
Biological function summary
PEA15 plays pivotal roles in promoting cellular survival and regulating apoptosis within various cell types. It operates by modulating pathways like apoptosis and cell proliferation often forming complexes with other DED-containing proteins such as FADD and caspase-8.
