CFC1 also known as cryptic family member 1 is a 36 kDa protein that plays a significant role in embryonic development. This protein is located in the extracellular matrix and the cellular surface where it interacts with various cell signaling molecules. It is predominantly expressed in the developing heart during gastrulation and in other embryonic tissues suggesting its importance in early development stages. CFC1 interacts with Nodal signaling pathways acting as a co-factor necessary for proper signal transduction.
