SECTM1 also known as Secreted and Transmembrane 1 and sometimes as K12 is a protein with a molecular mass of approximately 28 kDa. It expresses both membrane-bound and soluble forms found mainly in epithelial cells and in some types of immune cells such as monocytes. SECTM1 resides in the Golgi apparatus and can be secreted outside the cell indicating its role in cell signaling and communication.
Biological function summary
The protein plays a role in modulating immune responses. SECTM1 interacts with CD7 a cell surface glycoprotein found on T cells and natural killer cells influencing their activation and proliferation.
