Porcine SWC8 also known as Porcine CD172a is a surface antigen with a mass of approximately 100 kDa. This glycoprotein is expressed on a wide range of cells including monocytes granulocytes macrophages and subsets of dendritic cells in pigs. Its expression on these immune cells indicates its important role in the cellular immune response where it participates in various processes by serving as a receptor and adhesion molecule.
Biological function summary
This protein is involved in the regulation of immune responses acting as an inhibitory receptor that impacts the signaling associated with phagocytic activity. It forms part of the cell signaling complex with SHP-1 and SHP-2 two phosphatases that modulate immune cell activation through dephosphorylation of specific sites. SWC8's function in signaling ensures proper modulation of immune responses balancing activation and inhibition to prevent excessive inflammation.
Pathways
Porcine SWC8 participates in immune response and signal transduction pathways. It is closely related to proteins involved in the SIRP (Signal Regulatory Protein) family pathway. This pathway includes interactions with other SIRP family proteins such as SIRPβ and CD47 which are critical for cell-cell communication and immune regulation. These interactions influence cell survival proliferation and migration playing an important role in maintaining immune homeostasis.
Porcine SWC8 relates to conditions affecting the immune system such as immunodeficiency and inflammation in pigs. The protein's association with regulatory pathways implies a functional connection to disorders where immune regulation is disrupted. Changes in SWC8 expression or function may relate to autoimmune diseases reflecting its importance in maintaining immune control. Through its role in signaling cascades disturbances in its activity could influence proteins like CD47 affecting how the immune system responds to internal and external threats.
