CD172 gamma also known as SIRP gamma or signal-regulatory protein gamma is part of the signal-regulatory protein family. This protein has a molecular mass of approximately 44 kDa. CD172 gamma is a transmembrane protein expressed mainly on the surface of immune cells including T lymphocytes and to a lesser extent on other specific blood cells. It acts through its extracellular Ig-like domains which enable it to participate in cell-cell interactions.
Biological function summary
CD172 gamma plays a role in immune response modulation. It functions as a part of a receptor complex that assists in cell signaling and communication. This involvement includes facilitating interactions between immune cells and presenting antigens which can impact cell activation and response. CD172 gamma has specific interactions that contribute to the regulation of the immune system further enhancing its role in defining cellular activity.
Pathways
CD172 gamma engages in immune signaling pathways. This protein is notably associated with the antigen presentation pathway where it plays a significant role in adaptive immune response. It works in conjunction with other proteins like SIRP alpha and SIRP beta forming a network that modulates immune cell signaling and activity. It influences the pathway interactions that determine how immune cells respond to various stimuli.
CD172 gamma has connections to immune-related conditions. In particular this protein has been studied in the context of autoimmune diseases where its role in immune signaling can affect disease progression. It is also linked to certain hematological disorders influencing the behavior of blood cells. CD172 gamma interacts with proteins like CD47 in these disease processes playing a distinct role in the modulation and potential progression of these conditions.
