Cytoplasmic actins, which belong to the microfilament system of cytoskeleton proteins, are some of the most conserved eukaryotic proteins expressed in mammals. α-smooth muscle actin is widely expressed in contractile cells, most notably the mural cells that line arteries and arterioles. Overexpression of α-smooth muscle actin is a hallmark of fibrosis, a thickening or scarring of damaged tissue.

Recommended Usage: Each lot of this antibody is quality control tested by formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded immunohistochemical staining. For immunohistochemistry on formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue sections, a concentration range of 1.0 - 10.0 µg/mL is suggested. For immunocytochemistry, a concentration of 1.25 μg/mL is recommended. For western blotting, the suggested use of this reagent is 0.25 - 1.0 µg/mL. For flow cytometric staining, the suggested use of this reagent is 0.03 µg/test. It is recommended that the reagent be titrated for optimal performance for each application.
Additional Product Notes: For use in intracellular flow cytometry (ICFC), it is recommended to fix/permeabilize with True-Phos™ Perm Buffer (Cat. No. 425401). Either True-Nuclear™ Transcription Factor Buffer Set (Cat. No. 424401) or Cyto-Fast™ Fix/Perm Buffer Set (Cat. No. 426803) is not recommended.
